AXA’s History And Philanthropic Activities

Few companies have been named among the top three most powerful transnational corporations. In the last few years, AXA has repeatedly been included in this list. Other enterprises that are in the same category as AXA are Barclays and State Street Corporation. In 2016, AXA was named as one of the top three global financial services brands.

Axa is a French multinational insurance firm based in Paris. Besides global insurance plans, the company, through its subsidiaries, provides its clients with other innovative services such as investment management strategies. AXA’s history began in 1817 when Mutuelle de L’assurance Contre L’incendie was founded. In its early years, the company focused solely on providing insurance services to individuals and businesses in France. However, as the company grew, it started acquiring other firms. Owing to its financial muscles, the company was able to enter into foreign markets. Some of its major acquisitions include the purchase of Drouot Group in 1982, Compagnie Parisienne de Garantie in 1998, The Equitable in 1991, and Union des Assurances de Paris (UAP) in 1996.

Over the years, AXA has been involved in many philanthropic activities. The company created AXA Research Fund to manage the funds that are donated towards research. The company has allocated more than 100 million euros to the fund. AXA finances research projects that focus on helping humans to understand and prevent risks that are a threat to human life, society, and the environment. In the last three years, over 256 basic-research projects have been funded. More than 230 young researchers have been working on different research projects across the globe. In addition, the company operates AXA Heart in Action. Through the body, the company participates in artistic and social philanthropic activities.
